ISACA Honours NDPC for Distinguished Regulatory Leadership in Nigeria

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission has received the Industry Leader Regulator Recognition Award from the ISACA Lagos Chapter during its 30th-anniversary celebration in Lagos.
The ISACA Lagos Chapter honored the commission for its distinguished leadership, resilience, and commitment to building a trusted digital ecosystem in Nigeria. Ms. Omoikhefe Ahimie, the commission’s Lagos Liaison Officer, received the plaque on behalf of the National Commissioner and CEO, Dr. Vincent Olatunji. The award was formally presented by the Global CEO of ISACA, Mr. Erik Prusch. The recognition highlights ongoing efforts to enforce data privacy rights, strengthen institutional compliance under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, and foster good governance.
This recognition highlights a vital relationship built on shared goals for data governance. As Nigeria’s data protection authority, the commission relies on organisations like ISACA—a global professional association focused on IT governance, risk management, and cybersecurity—to help bridge the gap between regulatory policy and industry practice. While the commission creates and enforces the legal frameworks for data privacy, ISACA provides the professional training, certifications, and global standards that help businesses comply with those laws. By honoring the commission, ISACA reinforces this collaborative ecosystem where regulatory mandates and professional capacity development work together to secure Nigeria’s digital economy.
This partnership directly impacts local businesses and IT professionals across Nigeria. For local businesses, the collaboration removes the guesswork from regulatory compliance. Instead of facing unpredictable penalties, companies get clear pathways and standardized frameworks to protect customer data, which helps them build trust and compete globally. For IT professionals, the alignment means their certifications and skills remain highly relevant. It opens up massive career growth as demand surges for certified data protection officers, internal auditors, and cybersecurity experts who understand both regulatory laws and technical execution.
Accepting the honor, Ms. Ahimie congratulated the ISACA Lagos Chapter on reaching its 30-year milestone. She emphasized this exact synergy between regulatory bodies and professional associations in elevating industry standards, driving professional growth, and ensuring citizens’ data rights are protected. As part of the milestone event, additional honors—the Contributor to Chapter Knowledge Development Awards—were presented to key industry leaders, including Prof. Zechariah Akinpelu, Dr. Harrison Nnaji, Dr. Ronke Agoro, Dr. Adedoyin Talabi, and Mr. Abumere Igboa.
